Eiffel By Night

After our visit to the Champ de Mars last night, Jack was dying to get back there tonight and this time go up the tower, please can we dad. So that's what we did.

I'm not sure what looks better, the new blue euro look or the old. You decide. We waited around 30 minutes to get into the lifts, expecting only to get to the 2nd level as the top was closed. It turned out that it wasn't so we made it to the top after all.

We kept looking towards Montmartre as we had seen the setup for a fireworks display.. eventually at 11:15pm the show started. Jack seemed to have a great time and was conflicted as to the highlight of his weekend.. After some reflection the Motor Show was awarded 10 out of 10; Eiffel was either 9 or 9 and half..... Here is some more video.

I finally let Jack into the secret over dinner (Pizza) on Friday.  We set off to the Paris exhibition centre early and arrived just at opening time and we amongst the first to get in. In hindsight we should have sprinted straight to the Ferrari, Aston Martin, Maserati area in Hall 1 as by the time we got there it was like a slow moving scrum.  However we managed to worm our way to the front and we were slowly pushed around the display perimeter.

We ended up spending around five and half hours wondering through the seven halls and still didn't get to see everything.. the crowds were building up (they hadn't been so bad in the morning) and I convinced Jack that it was time to split.  The best part (for me) was listening to Jack describe the show to his mum that evening on the phone, no detail was lost as he replayed the days events backs.  Here are a few snapshots of our day.

Jack was very excited to get behind the wheel of the Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback which has 2l, 140 hp diesel engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox.    Yeah I know, like  who cares about its bits, how much does it cost and can you fit 3 camels in the back?

The performance of every feature was compared in relation to "your old car dad".

This has everything you want in a top Italian model: sleek, sophisticated and very sexy in white.

This picture does not show the congestion behind the red tape: everyone was pushing and stretching to get a look at the latest offerings from Lamborghini.

Crowds. Yes it was a Saturday.

Imagine the whole of NZ turned up to the Caroline Bay Carnival - that is what it was like only a bit more crowded.

You would have to really love cars.. but it wasn't all bad.

Jack was particularly interested in the huge air intake on this dragster.

Forget about the fact that it seems to be claiming to go up to the speed of sound. No, he was more interested in what would happen to any creature small enough to be sucked in through the mesh.  It is a nine year old thing.
