Where in France?

We had lots of questions about where in France are we going. The first part of the answer is that we don't know for certain yet.. We need to secure visas before we can finalise rental accommodation and schools.
The map above highlights the general search area of the Midi-Pyrenees; Languedoc-Roussillon and Provence. This covers the general area of the South & South West France.
Lot and Quercy Region of FranceI'm particularly keen on the Quercy/ Lot region. To date it has come out on top in most of our searching for property and schools. It is also the region were I have spent most of my time in France to date.

The area is full of medieval villages, castles, caves and other exciting stuff. Check out the link above to visit a good site.

Saturday: Start of School Holidays

September school holidays are here - finally. They started off with some work on the treehouse. The boys want to get rid of the old sandpit and make a secret fort (of sorts).

Finished the afternoon on Takapuna beach: Rangitoto in the background.

Why France?

Mum's Slide

Last Wednesday I caught up with Simon Ng, a Beca work colleague from Singapore. Simon was down in New Zealand on work and we took the chance to go out for dinner. It was really good to catch up with him and it re-enforced to me the importance of keeping in touch with ex-work colleagues.

Simon and family have a pretty cool blog and I was particularly impressed with the inserts from I have been experimenting with this over the last few days.

Here is a slide show of the number one mum in the world doing what she does best.

Henry's Tooth

For some time young gremlins have been drilling a hole in one of Henry's pearly whites. He wasn't that excited about the idea of having it removed and the situation wasn't helped by misguided management thanks to the public school dental nurse system.

When the big day arrived Dad went along for moral support (or it could have been restraint). Henry was very brave and at the critical moment of 'tooth' he proclaimed that he wanted Dad to pull it out. Like that was going to happen!

Anyway to reward his bravery (and offset the trauma) his mum bought him this cool soccer shirt. 10 points for guessing the team or the name on back?

Leppin Off-Road Run: Bethells Beach

Completed the 18km option on Sunday morning: I wasn't that far off from coming last. It was killer but more so cause of the mud than the hills. I struggled to get a grip and ended up walking and sliding through most of the course.

Pretty spectacular scenery on the last down section overlooking the beach.
