A great summer forecast
Kiwis should prepare for a long, hot summer. Photo / Herald on Sunday
New Zealanders looking to the skies for a respite from the gloom and doom of the economic recession are in luck, with a long, hot summer predicted.
NIWA is expecting above-average temperatures and less rainfall during the summer for much of the country, with settled periods of fine weather.

The northern hemisphere winter is starting to make an appearance in the Dordogne. We had some snow on Thursday morning (it was more like sleet really).. the temperature didn't get above 8ºC. The pool started the week at 17º but has now dropped to 11º - Pool season is definitely over.
All up it has been a miserable week weather wise and the prospect of some down-under sun is very appealing (even if it does come with an extra dose of ozone unscreened UVB sunlight).
